LETI 2018 WORKSTREAMS

Advancing NET Zero: Developing a Zero carbon framework with the UKGBC

As part of the global Advancing Net Zero campaign, this project will develop a framework for net zero carbon buildings for the UK market which builds on existing initiatives and standards.

Advancing NET Zero: Developing a Zero carbon framework with the UKGBC

The global Advancing Net Zero campaign is calling for all new buildings to operate at net zero carbon by 2030 and all existing buildings to operate at net zero carbon by 2050. As part of the campaign, this project will develop a framework for net zero carbon buildings for the UK market which builds on existing initiatives and standards. During summer 2018, we will be hosting workshops bringing together a broad range of construction and property stakeholders for their input, and will convene a group of technical experts to develop the framework around the workshop outputs.

As well as advising policy makers on policy changes, we must also implement the LETI principles within our everyday work and advocate that others do the same. LETI is therefore running three workstreams in 2018 that look to move us closer to a zero emissions London. See workstream descriptions below. To register your interest in taking part in the workstreams fill out the form below.

Leading by example: Developing a LETI appendix for energy statements

The London Plan sets minimum standards in terms of performance and information. The building industry can go further in order to deliver buildings which are truly energy efficient and low carbon in practice. This group will look into how developers, architects and energy consultants could go further than the standard energy statement and lead by example. This could involve providing additional information (e.g. kWh/m2), or proposing an alternative approach to compliance

e.g. adopting “Design for Performance”. The objective would be to enable clients to make better informed decisions and to build up over time a useful a database which would be useful to the GLA but also the construction industry as a whole. We will run a workshop in March or April and we will aim at concluding our proposals in June. This group is specifically looking for developers, sustainability officer, architect, energy consultant, MEP engineer and organisations that commit to piloting the LETI appendix from June 2017- March 2018.

LETI Legacy: Implementing the LETI principles

The purpose of this group is to pull-together ideas for how we can practically implement the positive outcomes of LETI over the long-term and to keep the programme active beyond the London Plan consultation. It may be that we form an advisory panel that could assist local authorities or developers, or establish a collaborative approach to applying the LETI principles on pilot projects for example. We are calling for people who have experience of participating in steering groups, strategic advisory roles, those who have set up organisations, and stakeholders from local authorities or who operate ‘client side’ as well those with a technical background. The group will meet initially in March to map out ideas and thoughts, and will work over the summer to finesse these ideas in line with the outcomes of the other project teams before a wider group session in November.
